Afterwards, Stripey Wipey turned to the little girl’s mum and quietly said, “If she survives, she’s got a free party.”
That was the reality of the moment. Nobody knew what the future would hold. The following year she was not at the Addenbrooke’s party. Neither was she the year after that. Every year Stripey Wipey asked Mrs Stripey what could be done. Every year there was hope, but no party.
Then one day the phone rang. A voice said, “I don’t suppose you remember us…”
The answer came instantly. “Of course I do. Where do you want me?”
She had survived. And she wanted her party. A short while later, Stripey Wipey found himself entertaining her and her whole school. It was fabulous. Not because it was a big booking. Not because it was a great show. Because sometimes life gives you the chance to finish a story you never expected to finish.
A note that still means a great deal
For many years, Stripey Wipey was privileged to support the annual children’s party connected with Addenbrooke’s Hospital. One message from Judith has always stayed close to the heart.
BIG THANKS!
Thank you so much for your fantastic contribution to the party on Sunday. We have had lots of very appreciative comments from families who were there. We would struggle to do it without you. We’ll let you know next year’s date asap – really hope you will be able to join us again.
All the best
Judith
Those experiences shaped the way Stripey Wipey approaches every party. Not because every party is the same, but because every child is different, every family is different and every celebration is different.
Whether it is a 45-minute show, a 1-hour party, a 90-minute celebration or a full 2-hour Saturday afternoon birthday experience, the goal remains exactly the same: to help children laugh together, feel included together and create memories they will still be talking about years later.
The greatest moments are not always the biggest stages. Sometimes they are found in a frightened child finding the courage to walk into a room. Sometimes they are found in a small act of kindness. Sometimes they arrive years later in the form of a phone call nobody expected.
The party ends when the guests go home. The memories don’t.
